am i the only person who feels like they invest SO much into a relationship with friends, so much more than he or she is getting in return? Obviously we’re not in friendships for selfish reasons, but sometimes it’s ridiculous! giving a dollar for a penny in return? i just hope i’m a better friend to others than others may be to me. what is the secret to happines???

    I’ve been in that situation before. Unfortunately, I realized it after being ripped off too much ‘dollars’ (not pennies). Of course, I learn my lesson. I don’t normally just ‘give’ too much until I know they are not just taking advantage of you.

    Anyway, I believe in this quote from Aristotle:

    Misfortune shows those who are not really friends.

    I also like this quote from George Washington:

    Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence. True friendship is a plant of slow growth, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation.
