Morning Coffee - HAPPINESS

HAPPINESS IS JUST LIKE A BUTTERFLY
THE MORE YOU PURSUE, THE MORE IT WOULD FLY AWAY
BUT IF YOU ARE CALM AND STANDING STILL
IT WOULD EVENTUALLY COME CLOSE AND LAND GENTLY ON YOUR SHOULDER
I’m not a deep thinker, but the quotation struck me right on my head. What would actually make us happy living our day-to-day life? Great job, nice house, expensive car, and lovely family? How would you define “happiness” in your life? Could you be happy with what you have now?
Think about the past…when you had practically nothing. What did you have in mind a decade ago? A stable job, a small house, a decent car, and a family? Was that all you need back then? And compare to what you have now….are they more than you ever expected? Are you happy with all of them?
Happiness is a state of mind. In life, the key to happiness is knowing what exactly you want, when exactly you need, and how exactly you gonna pursue. When you are thinking of getting more, you’ll never be happy with what you have now. Wanting more, getting more, demanding more, will always put you in a place “ENOUGH IS NEVER ENOUGH”.
Well..it’s always easier to say than to do. If we want to continuously advance and stay ahead of others, then we probably have to forget about happiness for a while, cause ENOUGH is never existed in our books. But when we have eventually get to a point we could appreciate our achievements and be satisfied with what we have gotten so far, then happiness would start flowing in.
In our early career (professional and/or entrepreneurial), we are just like in a vast prairie with butterflies all around. They are all different and interesting and colourful. The sky is clear, the air is fresh and we’re all excited. We are running around trying to catch the butterflies as many as we can. We try to compete with others to catch the most…no matter what. We are fast, but the butterflies are flying faster. We could not catch them. After some time, we realize that we need to focus on only few. And be calm and stand still and have some faith. The butterflies will then slow down, fly low and eventually land gently on our shoulder.
In search of happiness, we first have to know from within…what exactly we want. Life is all about choices. We all have different choices. Our happiness will likely depend on the outcome of the choices we made. Learn from others, but never compare yourself with them. Every of us is unique in our own way. Aim high, lay low. Set a target and make a deadline. Push very hard to your very limit when trying to reach your target, but also have to know when the time is off. Be satisfied with whatever you have. Don’t always fight for all the best, but always try to make the best out of all you have. That’s actually the happiness you are looking for………………

Use the power of small! That means appreciating what you have. Take the time at the end of each day to list 5 positives/accomplishments. It’s a great way to reset yourself on a down day and look back at all your good times.
