t-mobileT-Mobile USA Inc., the U.S. wireless- phone unit of Deutsche Telekom AG, reported a service outage last evening on its voice and data network.

The company deployed teams to fix the disruption, Bellevue, Washington-based T-Mobile reported on its Web site.

“We’re making good progress restoring voice and messaging service to affected customers,” T-Mobile said on its Web site. “Approximately 5 percent of T-Mobile customers are experiencing service disruptions.” The outages began yesterday at about 5:30 p.m. New York time.

This is at least the second service disruption in the past two months for the wireless carrier. Customers who owned Sidekick phones lost data stored on their handsets after a server went down last month. Some customers still had lost data as of Oct. 31.

T-Mobile, which competes with Verizon Wireless and AT&T Inc. for mobile sales, reported a 2.3 percent decline in revenue in the second quarter as customers’ average monthly bills fell. The company is attracting subscribers who spend less on voice and is relying increasingly on sales of data plans for growth, the company said in August.
