The Seabrook plant explosion happened at around 8:50 am. The Houston Chronicle reports a short section of Texas 146 and Port Road were closed as a result of the Seabrook explosion at the American Acryl facility.
Within an hour, firefighters put out the fire and smoke was no longer visible. Two people went to the hospital for reported discomfort from the plant explosion. They are said to be in good condition.
The blast involved the toxic substance toluene but the company said the plant explosion did not cause the chemical to be released. American Acryl was formed in 1997 and got permission to build the plant in 2000 on 65 acres.
