Avatar, out next Thursday, is truly an event movie. Tonight Avatar holds a premiere event in London and the early comments from the movie watcher sums up that the movie is “Truly Out of This World”.

Director James Cameron told of his relief at attending the world premiere of his latest film Avatar, which took him 15 years to finish.

The 3-D world of Avatar was conceived by Cameron 15 years ago and has been in production for more than four-and-a-half years, with its ground-breaking technology making it the most expensive film ever made.

Avatar stars Sam Worthington and Sigourney Weaver at the world premiere in London / Getty ImagesHe played down hopes for another Best Picture Oscar, saying: “I think they should give serious attention to the technical work, the visual effects and photography, sound, music.. it’s a beautiful score. As for the other stuff, the Academy tends to be not that interested in science fiction films, fantasy films but we’ll see. It’s a possibility.”

Weaver said she loved the chance to work with Cameron.

“He’s such an inspiring director, he’s a lot of fun to work with, he’s written such an amazing, emotional story and given us such an extraordinary world to be in and I’m thrilled to be an audience member tonight and just take it all in,” she said.

The plot is set in the next century, with humans trying to take vital resources from a distant planet called Pandora.

A paraplegic soldier called Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) gets the chance to walk again when he is transformed into the local species, the Na’vi.

This 10ft-tall elegant blue creature is his “avatar”.

Jake is supposed to spy on the Na’vi for his company, but his mission gets complicated when he falls for a local girl.

The romance between Jake and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) shows that Cameron has not lost his ability to evoke emotion. It will bring tears to your eyes.

Aussie Sam is totally compelling as Jake. It is easy to see why he is now such an in-demand actor.

James Cameron has described his new filming process as “emotion capture”. And it’s a boast he lives up to.

Here are some early reviews on Avatar:

“The King of the World sets his sights on creating another world entirely in Avatar, and it’s very much a place worth visiting.”-Todd McCarthy,Variety

“The screen is alive with more action and the soundtrack pops with more robust music than any dozen sci-fi shoot-’em-ups you care to mention.”-Kirk Honeycutt,Hollywood Reporter

“Avatar is an overwhelming, immersive spectacle. The state-of-the-art 3D technology draws us in, but it is the vivid weirdness of Cameron’s luridly imagined tropical otherworld that keeps us fascinated.”-Wendy Ide,Times [UK]

—More techno wampum and circle-jerk slop from the long rich and decades stale James Cameron.

Has there EVER been a more self-indulgent,creatively limited, corrupt and bankrupt generation of ‘artists’ —than this boomer generation? —I doubt it.

James Cameron, in his first feature film since “Titanic” in 1997, has the right to reclaim the title of King of the (Cinematic) World with this monumental epic.
