Kealey Oliver, a 16-year-old cheerleader from Moore High School, tackled an alleged thief at Penn Square Mall on Sunday night.
Oliver was on her cell phone, talking to her mother, when suddenly a man started running toward her.
She said that at first she wasn’t even sure what she had done. She said, “If I would have thought about it, I probably wouldn’t have done it. I was like, ‘Hang on, Mom,’ and I like put the phone down. And when he got close to me, I just got in his way and like grabbed him, and he kept trying to run, so I just slammed him on the ground.”
Slamming the suspect to the ground gave mall security the chance to catch up, police said.
“I grabbed him and then put him on his stomach, and I was still holding onto him. I don’t even know,” Oliver said.
She got a scratch on her arm and a bruise on her left knee, and to top it off — she did it all in a dress.
“I was in a strapless dress, yeah,” Oliver said.
Oklahoma City police were able to confirm that a shoplifter was arrested around that time on Sunday, but his name was not released.
