The Avatar Sequal, A Hint from the Director

Director James Cameron never expected Avatar to be anything less than a Blockbuster. So it’s not a huge surprise that the director confirms this week that he has always planned to do an “Avatar” sequel, and hopefully even turn the franchise into a trilogy (you hear that, George Lucas?).
Directors often hint about sequels that never come about, but the fact that “Avatar” star Sam Worthington has already signed on to reprise his role as Jake Sully suggests the plans look pretty solid. And Cameron has had good luck with sequels in the past: “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” made more than seven times as much money as the original “Terminator“; and “Aliens,” Cameron’s sequel to Ridley Scott’s “Alien” may not have outpaced the original at the box office, but it was by all other metrics a solid hit.
If the “Avatar” sequel does happen, it’ll be a few years before audiences can lay their 3D-glasses-enhanced eyes on it. Cameron is currently in pre-production on his next movie, “Battle Angel” in which he’ll use some of the same CG technology he created for “Avatar.” That film is slated to hit theaters in 2011.
Avatar Becomes the 2nd All Time Box Office in just 20 Days!
by wildcherry on Friday, January 8th, 2010 | Entertainment, News | No Comments
Avatar has officially become number two grossing film of all time at the worldwide box office, passing $1.14 billion on Wednesday.
Cameron’s next challenge is to beat the records set by his previous film, 1997 disaster romance ‘Titanic’, which continues to rule the No 1 spot with $1.8 billion.
Avatar’s domestic earning was $374.4 million through Wednesday and the foreign haul collected $760.9 million to beat the $1.1 billion scored by ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King’, the Variety reported online.
The film, which released worldwide on December 18, is expected to continue to make money as it enters into the fourth week.
Angelina Jolie ‘Salt’ is an CIA officer
by nate on Thursday, November 5th, 2009 | Entertainment, News | No Comments
Angelina Jolie begins work today on Salt, a spy thriller about a rogue CIA operative who tries to clear her name after she is accused of being a Russian sleeper agent — perhaps falsely, perhaps not.
The story revolves around CIA officer Evelyn Salt, who finds herself on the run from her own colleagues after she is accused by a defector of being a Russian spy. It will take all of her training and skills in order for her to have a chance at clearing her name and gaining her life back.
Salt is being directed by Phillip Noyce, who made the 1990s-era Jack Ryan films with Harrison Ford, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger.
He promises Salt will be “a reality-based spy movie with action set pieces as thrilling as the most crowd-pleasing movies of this genre.”
Michael Jackson’s This Is It wins weekend box office with $21.3 million
by bintangkecil on Monday, November 2nd, 2009 | Entertainment, News | No Comments
Halloween audiences picked beats over blood this weekend, pushing “Michael Jackson’s This Is It” to the top spot, while horror phenomenon “Paranormal Activity” scored a strong second-place finish.
With a $21.3 million domestic gross, “This Is It” raised its worldwide total to a massive $101 million that easily breaks the record for a concert doc, though it falls far short of the $250 million that concert promoter AEG reportedly predicted.
Even so, the performance was good enough to convince distributor Sony (which acquired the pic for a mere $60 million) to announce that the concert pic will remain in theaters at least until Thanksgiving.
Still beating expectations in its third wide-release weekend, the sleeper hit “Paranormal Activity” dropped just 22 percent for a $16.5 million haul. At $84.8 million total after six weekends, the surprise smash is now the year’s highest grossing horror movie.
Rounding out the top five are holdovers “Law Abiding Citizen” ($7.3 million), “Couples Retreat,” ($6.1 million), and “Saw VI” ($5.6 million).
The weekend’s two other newbies both had lukewarm receptions in wide release: “The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day” made $0.5 million at 68 theaters, while “Gentlemen Broncos” earned $10,000 at two sites.
