Joseph Andrew Stack Crash an Airplane into the IRS Building

by wildcherry on Thursday, February 18th, 2010 | News, World | No Comments

Joseph Andrew Stack, a software engineer upset with the Internal Revenue Service set fire to his home Thursday and then flew his plane into a multistory office building that houses federal tax employees, authorities said.

The pilot was presumed to have died in the crash, federal law enforcement officials said. At least two people were injured and a third person who worked in the building was unaccounted for, fire officials said.

The crash caused a raging fire that sent black smoke billowing from the seven-story Echelon Building. The fire was extinguished hours later.

Federal law enforcement officials said they were investigating whether the pilot crashed on purpose in an effort to blow up IRS offices.

About 190 IRS employees work in the building, and IRS spokesman Richard C. Sanford the agency was trying to account for all of its workers.

The pilot, listed in FAA and property records as Andrew Joseph Stack 3rd of Austin and identified by law enforcement sources as Joseph Stack, apparently had a long-running dispute with the IRS.

Stack apparently left a long message, dated Thursday, on his company Web site outlining problems with the IRS and said violence “is the only answer.”

“If you’re reading this, you’re no doubt asking yourself, ‘Why did this have to happen?’ The simple truth is that it is complicated and has been coming for a long time,” the note begins.

The Web site was taken offline Thursday afternoon by the hosting company at the request of the FBI.

A senior law enforcement official told NBC’s Pete Williams the saga began Thursday morning, when police received a domestic disturbance call at Stack’s house, about six miles from the crash site. When they responded, they discovered that the man had lit a fire in his house and fled. They said he went to the Georgetown Municipal Airport, got into his small plane and took off.

A short time later, the plane crashed into the office building about 30 miles away. Federal authorities said they did not know whether the man crashed the plane intentionally, though they said it was a distinct possibility, the official told NBC.

Orlando shooting suspect: Jason Rodriguez (Video and Photos)

by wildcherry on Friday, November 6th, 2009 | News, World | 1 Comment

Orlando’s shooting suspect, Jason Rodriguez, 40, was arrested a little after 2 p.m.at his mother’s apartment at the intersection of Curry Ford Road and State Road 436.

Rodriguez, who is suspected of killing one person and wounding five others, worked for Reynolds Smith & Hills, an architectural engineering firm, located at the eight floor of the 1000 Legion’s Place, where the shooting took place.

A spokesman for the firm confirmed that Rodriguez was terminated in June 2007 for “a performance issue,” though a different company employee said he was let go as part of a larger layoff.

At RS&H, he did architectural work, said Renato Gonzalez, a manager in the firm’s DeLand office. Gonzalez described Rodriguez’s separation from the company as part of a larger company layoff.

“I know that we was not very happy with the layoff,” said Gonzalez, who recalled that Rodriguez made disgruntled comments when he left the firm, though nothing that indicated he would resort violence.

“He took it a little worse than most people.”

RS&H has 11 offices across Florida, including in DeLand, Merritt Island and Tampa.

Records show he filed for bankruptcy in Orlando in September.

King of Pop death left $400 million of debt

by wildcherry on Friday, June 26th, 2009 | Entertainment, News | No Comments

All of us should be able to learn something from this story! Never ever have a mountain of debt or else your family will be the ones that suffer if something ever happen to you.

Full List of Michael Jackson Album

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Michael Jackson the singer was also Michael Jackson the billion-dollar business.

Yet after selling more than 61 million albums in the U.S. and having a decade-long attraction open at Disney theme parks, the “King of Pop” died Thursday at age 50 reportedly awash in about $400 million in debt, on the cusp of a final comeback after well over a decade of scandal.

The moonwalking pop star drove the growth of music videos, vaulting cable channel MTV into the popular mainstream after its launch in 1981. His 1982 hit “Thriller,” still the second best-selling U.S. album of all time, spawned a John Landis-directed music video that MTV played every hour on the hour.

“The ratings were three or four times what they were normally every time the video came on,” said Judy McGrath, the chairman and CEO of Viacom Inc.’s MTV Networks. “He was inextricably tied to the so-called MTV generation.”

Five years later, “Bad” sold 22 million copies. In 1991, he signed a $65 million recording deal with Sony.

Jackson was so popular that The Walt Disney Co. hitched its wagon to his star in 1986, opening a 3-D movie at its parks called “Captain EO,” executive produced by George Lucas and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The last attraction in Paris closed 12 years later.

One of Jackson’s shrewdest deals at the height of his fame in 1985 was the $47.5 million acquisition of ATV Music, which owned the copyright to songs written by the Beatles’ John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The catalog provided Jackson a steady stream of income and the ability to afford a lavish lifestyle.

He bought the sprawling Neverland ranch in 1988 for $14.6 million, a fantasy-like 2,500-acre property nestled in the hills of Santa Barbara County’s wine country.

But the bombshell hit in 1993 when he was accused of molesting a 13-year-old boy.

“That kind of represents the beginning of the walk down a tragic path, financially, emotionally, spiritually, psychologically, legally,” said Michael Levine, his publicist at the time.

He settled with the boy’s family, but other accounts of his alleged pedophilia began to emerge.

When he ran into further financial problems, he agreed to a deal with Sony in 1995 to merge ATV with Sony’s library of songs and sold Sony music publishing rights for $95 million. Then in 2001, he used his half of the ATV assets as collateral to secure $200 million in loans from Bank of America.

As his financial problems continued, Jackson began to borrow large sums of money, according to a 2002 lawsuit by Union Finance & Investment Corp. that sought $12 million in unpaid fees and expenses.

In 2003, Jackson was arrested on charges that he molested another 13-year-old boy. The 2005 trial, which ultimately ended in an acquittal, brought to light more details of Jackson’s strained finances.

One forensic accountant testified that the singer had an “ongoing cash crisis” and was spending $20 million to $30 million more per year than he earned.

Neverland

In March of last year, the singer faced foreclosure on Neverland. He also repeatedly failed to make mortgage payments on a house in Los Angeles that had been used for years by his family.

Michael Jackson’s Sudden Death

by bintangkecil on Thursday, June 25th, 2009 | Entertainment, News, World | 1 Comment

American pop idol and superstar Michael Jackson died today in Los Angeles from apparent cardiac arrest.

Cardiac arrest is a condition in which the electrical signals to the heart become abnormal, making it impossible for it to properly pump blood through the body. In over 90 percent of victims, death occurs.

Michael Jackson, who as a member of the Jackson 5 and then as a solo artist became one of the biggest stars in pop music history, was pronounced dead Monday at UCLA Medical Center after an apparent heart attack, the Los Angeles Times reports. He was 50.

Jackson arrived at the hospital in a deep coma following a heart attack, the Times said. The paper said Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at Jackson’s home around 12:26 p.m. He was not breathing when they arrived. The paramedics performed CPR as he was en route to the medical center, which is only a few minutes away from Jackson’s rented BelAir home. Reportedly, he never regained consciousness.

It is too early to tell, however, the exact reasons behind the 50-year-old Jackson’s death. Undiagnosed heart disease is the leading underlying cause of cardiac arrest. However, other risk factors like a family history of the condition, previous heart attack or heart failure, and drug abuse or excessive alcohol intake can increase the risk of its occurence.

Celebrity Web site TMZ.com, which was the first to report of Jackson’s death, said LaToya Jackson was seen running from the hospital, sobbing. It was reported Jackson’s mother and at least some of his brothers were present.

Father Joe Jackson, who was the driving force behind the Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson’s early singing career, was reportedly in Las Vegas.

Jackson’s death came less than a month before the start of a scheduled series of so-called comeback concerts. From July 13 to March 6, 2010, Jackson was scheduled to perform 50 sold-out concerts at London’s O2 Arena.

CNN) — CNN projects that Barack Obama will be the nation’s 44th president.

Obama will address the country from a rally in Chicago, Illinois, later Tuesday night.

As news broke, supporters cried and cheered, “Yes, we can.”

Obama will become the first African-American to win the presidency.

The Illinois senator is projected to pick up a big win in Virginia, a state that hasn’t voted for a Democratic president since 1964.

Obama also is projected to beat Sen. John McCain in Ohio, a battleground state that was considered a must-win for the Republican candidate.

Article by CBS:

(CBS/ AP)

With nearly all polls closed across the country, CBS News projects that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama will become the 44th president of the United States.

Obama’s victory, an historic moment in American history, comes on the strength of projected victories in battleground states that went to President George W. Bush four years ago - among them Ohio, Virginia, New Mexico and Iowa - as well as a win in Pennsylvania, a state that John McCain had hoped to turn blue to buoy his bid for an upset victory.

As the results came in Tuesday evening, a senior aide told CBS News the McCain camp was hoping for a “miracle,” but the Arizona senator was not able to defy expectations in one of the worst election years for Republicans in decades.

In addition to the above states, CBS News estimates that Obama will win California, New York, Washington, Michigan, Oregon, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Vermont, Illinois, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maryland, Hawaii, Connecticut, Maine, Delaware, Rhode Island and the District of Columbia.

FINAL: Presidential Election Results

by wildcherry on Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 | News, World | 4 Comments

Registration, Early Voting At Unprecedented Levels Forecasting Record Numbers At The Polls

Latest candidate polls by CNN

CNN) — Sen. John McCain arrived with a cadre of Secret Service agents at a Phoenix, Arizona, church to cast his ballot Tuesday in a historic election that pits the Arizona legislator against fellow Sen. Barack Obama.

Shortly before McCain cast his ballot at Albright United Methodist Church, his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin, voted in the City Hall where she once served as mayor.

Palin voted quickly behind a red-white-and-blue curtain at the Wasilla, Alaska, City Hall, before stepping outside with her husband, Todd, to speak to reporters.

Asked if she voted for embattled Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, who was convicted last week on corruption charges, Palin declined to divulge who she voted for.

“I don’t have to tell anybody who I voted for,” she told reporters with a smile.

Palin is scheduled to head for Phoenix, where she will join McCain to watch the election results roll in. Video Watch Palin step behind the curtain »

McCain is scheduled to make visits to Grand Junction, Colorado, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Colorado and New Mexico both voted for President Bush in 2004, but the latest polls have them leaning toward Obama.

Obama hit the polls earlier. He and his wife, Michelle, voted side by side at Shoesmith Elementary School in Chicago, Illinois, as their daughters Sasha and Malia looked on. The couple took about 20 minutes to complete their ballots. Full story here by CNN

Breaking News: Obama’s grandmother dies of cancer in Hawaii

by wildcherry on Monday, November 3rd, 2008 | News, World | No Comments

To hear the news that Barack Obama’s grandmother Madelyn Dunham died, just hours before the grandson she helped raise could be elected President of the United States of America is heart-breaking and inspiring all at once.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s grandmother died of cancer, he said in a statement on Monday, a little more than a week after he interrupted the White House campaign to say goodbye to her in Hawaii.

“It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died peacefully after a battle with cancer,” Obama said in a joint statement with his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng. “She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength and humility.”

Dunham, 86, helped raise Obama from the age of 10 while his mother was working in Indonesia, and Obama took an emotional 22-hour trip to Hawaii to visit her on October 23 and 24.

Obama said afterward his grandmother had been flooded with cards, flowers and well-wishes from around the country, and he regularly thanked crowds at his campaign rallies for their prayers.

“Our family wants to thank all of those who sent flowers, cards, well-wishes and prayers during this difficult time,” the statement said.

“It brought our grandmother and us great comfort. Our grandmother was a private woman, and we will respect her wish for a small private ceremony to be held at a later date,” the statement said.

Dunham had followed Obama’s presidential bid with great interest, and her death comes one day before U.S. voters will render their verdict in the race between Obama and Republican John McCain.

Obama affectionately called her “Toot” — short for “tutu,” the Hawaiian word for grandmother — and frequently spoke of her on the campaign trail.

Dunham had recently broken her hip but the campaign had refused to comment on reports she was suffering from cancer.
