Grand Canyon Suite by Ferde Grofe

by nate on Tuesday, February 16th, 2010 | Beauty, Life | No Comments

Grand Canyon Suite is a suite for orchestra by Ferde Grofe, composed during the period from 1929 to 1931. Paul Whiteman and his band gave the performance of the public for the first time to work, initially titled ‘five photographs of the Grand Canyon’, in concert at the Studebaker Theater in Chicago on November 22, 1931.

And just to develop a greater sense of the content of this orchestra, and movements of five of the Grand Canyon suite entitled ‘Sunrise’, ‘Painted Desert’, ‘on the Trail’, ‘Sunset’ and ‘Storm’.

• Sunrise opens with a representation of the moment of dawn in the valley. A sense of peace is present, and a sense of still air, from a place owned by nature. Mount gradually hear the sun in the sky, even the joy of advertising fullorchestra announce the arrival of the last day a wonderful and exquisite. Two major issues presented music is: The first, announced Piccolo, opens with a four-note motive (s # # everyone B) which will appear later inthe work in various aspects, and the second appears in the strings. After the trill of Piccolo, descending notes that follow reflect the canyon wren call applied on a large scale, but not often seen songbird common in the southwest Valley and the desert.

• The Painted Desert is a watercolor of the sensitivity and accuracy of impressive. Grofé runs indicate the presence of some ageless, and change of life still exists in a barren desert with no life in it, and what appears to be the wonderful, and sometimes stunning colors of rock formations, and works of art from prehistoric geological. Ingenious use of ropes for the tone and the orchestra and plentiful.

• In the Trail is the best known of the movements of the Grand Canyon Suite, in the report of the ears of the day riding on a donkey pack (imitating the clip clop), and ends with a great start, “hee-haw.” Cadenza and violinist is used to great effect. The main theme of this movement, which was provided by the centuries, and later, trombone, is a major motivator for the suite.

• Sunset is to make the nostalgic and pleasantly sentimental of the most glorious moments of the Grand Canyon, when the sky is alive with vibrant colors over the shadows deepen in the gorge, great.

• Storm opens with a sleepy recollection of the subject “on the road” in the upper strings. Then enter into a combination, a kind of panoramic view of the breadth of this western landscape, with brief references to other subjects inthe work. That this scene comes suddenly dark, and the rush of clouds and wind and altitude. A lone cello solo refers to a state of fear. Evening air is filled with soft sand and hot spare, in the form of a strange violin glissandi slow. Breaks the storm and lightning, thunder and pelting rain. And then more rapidly, it is gold, with another incident of lightning and loud thunder. The moon appears from behind the clouds and the earth rejoice at the pleasure refreshed in the end, climate dramatically.

The Top Five Holiday Fashion Mistakes

by nate on Friday, December 18th, 2009 | Beauty, Fashion, Knowledge, Life, Tips | No Comments

Learn how to avoid common holiday fashion mistakes and look your prettiest this year:

Wearing Too Much Glitz
Beading, metallic and shimmer are all fine for the holidays. In fact, most women wait until a good party to break out all of the glitzy finery. But too much shine can overwhelm anyone, especially if you wear it in areas that you don’t necessarily want to highlight (like a beaded chest sweater for a busty gal).

Showing Too Much Skin
Thigh-high miniskirts and cut-to-the-navel dresses may look great on the runway, but in reality they are almost impossible to carry off. Not only is it possible to dress sexy while leaving lots to the imagination, it’s also the best way to look your prettiest for the holidays. The secret here is to accentuate your best features with a suggestion: a lace trimmed camisole under a blazer hints at great cleavage, a small slit on a skirt gives a glimpse at gorgeous legs, a halter dress shows off toned arms.

Getting Caught With Nothing to Wear
Nothing is worse than being invited to a fabulous party and having nothing to wear. By keeping a few dressy basics in your closet you can always be prepared for last-minute invitations. You can even re-wear the items and make them look totally different just with accessories.

Making It Too Complicated
No wonder women approach the holidays with dread: trying to coordinate outfits, gifts, travel and parties can overload even the most organized woman.
Instead of trying to match up dressy separates, try a little black dress this season. Not only is it universally flattering, it will take you to almost any event in style. Just add accessories and you’re set.

Being Under or Over Dressed
You show up in jeans, everyone else wears velvet; you wear a long dress and others wear business clothes. You’re not alone if you have trouble deciphering dress codes on a party invitation: most people get confused by designations as ambiguous as “Dressy Casual” or “Cocktail Attire.” A few dressy items span several categories — such as the little black dress for her or dark suit for him — both of which can attend everything from semi-formal to cocktail parties.

How to be the life of the party

by whoisray on Sunday, March 22nd, 2009 | Knowledge, Life | No Comments

Be fun, be cool - Ray Sweat style

When it comes to partying there are really only a few characters you can come across; weird music guy, wallflower, always drunk person, early leaver, drinking game know-it-all, and the fun guy/gal. Ray shows you how to party like a rock star, become the fun guy/gal character that everyone notices, and get the most out of your time and energy.

Things You’ll Need:

  • Cologne (not a must, but everyone likes someone who smells good right?)
  • A way home (you know, in case you get drunk)
  • A personality (just be sure to be yourself and not impersonate someone else. i met a guy one time who did a Dr. Cox, from Scrubs, impersonation pretty much the entire night)
  • Your best smile (be sure to brush your teeth, cuz that’d be gross)

- Be Charismatic and Charming -

clooney charismaCertain people can walk into a room and immediately be the center of attention and captivate everyone they talk to. Why can’t that be you? You don’t have to be rich, famous, or have the looks of, say… George Clooney or Jessica Biel to pull this off. If you don’t believe it then think about this: Mystery (this bloke), a guy who wears goggles on his head for no reason and is almost always seen wearing a large fur top hat, can walk into a room and suck up almost all of the attention.

It’s not that hard, and when you doubt yourself just think to yourself, “If Mystery, the strange man wearing goggles, can do it, so can I.”

  1. Stand straight & relax. If you’re hunched over you will not only look weird, but you look like you are having a miserable time and people can pick up on that. It’s not good. Also, relax. You’re going to a party, not jail. You break this rule then you are on your way to becoming the wallflower character who sits on the couch the whole time hoping someone talks to them.
  2. Be outgoing. Go out of your way to introduce yourself to people, you never know who you’re going to meet. The last time I introduced myself, I found out this person was working at Disney World as a chipmunk at the same time I was there for Thanksgiving. This means I saw her on stage shakin’ her tail in late November and a few months later I was having a conversation with her, having no clue she was the dancing chipmunk. Needless to say, it was awesome.
  3. Laugh & Smile. I like when people laugh at my jokes, I’m sure everyone else does too.
  4. Be interested & keep eye contact. Talking to people and hearing what they have to say is the way to go, and you’ll almost always have something absurd in common. Try it. Remember, eye contact is good, unless she’s blind, then it’s pointless. The more you know…
  5. Compliment them. If you like something they’re wearing, tell them. Especially if it’s a nautical themed pashima afghan.
  6. Dress for the occasion. Look good, but not like you’re going to the prom - you don’t want to be that guy. If you take the time to get ready then you will feel a lot more confident about the night.

Riding a motorcycle

by nothingness on Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008 | Entertainment, Travel | 3 Comments

The Reasons:

1) The thrill of having an intimate driving experience with the road just inches from your feet while the wind blowing past your face.

2) The speed and power that only cars with the highest $ could match. It is common for modern motorcycles to go 0-60mph in high 2 or low 3 secs while passing 1/4 miles under 11, even 10, secs.

3) The fuel efficiency of at getting 45 mpg and up.

4) The ability to ride between lane (legal in California) and in car pool lanes, making one able to defeat the hopeless traffic.

The Types (on-road only, click for video clip):

  • Choppers
Epitomized by the Harley-Davidson Panhead in the film Captain America, choppers tend to have extremely raked forks, reclined seats, and lots of showy chrome.
  • Cruisers
Cruisers are like sedate choppers; their fork rake is less extreme, and they’re designed for laid-back riding.
  • Dual Sports
A dual-sport, colloquially known as “dualie” or an “on-off road bike” is a type of street-legal motorcycle that is designed for both on and off-road use. They are the offspring of rugged dirtbikes and long-distance tourers, these bikes boast lots of suspension travel and upright postures.
  • Naked
Naked bikes recall British motorcycles of the sixties, and lack bodywork or a fairing that would normally hide their engines and inner-workings.
  • Scooters
Typified by Italian-made Vespas, scooters are like small motorcycles with bodywork that allows the rider to “step through” and sit without getting his or her clothes stained by oil. Scooter engine sizes can be as little as 50cc.
  • Sport
Designed purely for performance, sport bikes tend to require arms-forward posture, powerful engines, and tight handling.
  • Supermoto
Based on race machines that compete on a combination of road and dirt surfaces, Supermoto bikes combine offroad characteristics such as deep suspension travel with road tires and bodywork reminiscent of so-called “street fighter” bikes.
  • Touring
Created solely for long-distance comfort, touring bikes often feature backrests, large windscreens, and creature comforts such as radios and navigation systems.
