Diet Tips for Woman: 10 Things to Do Instead of Dieting

by wildcherry on Monday, November 9th, 2009 | Health, Life | 1 Comment

1. Wear heels. Always.
We know, we know: High heels can hurt like a biotch and be insanely expensive. But trust us, they’re still necessary. They will instantly add sexiness to any outfit, regardless of the body that sits on top of them. They also make your legs look longer and, therefore, the rest of you appear thinner.

2. Beware your friends who are fat magnets.
Admit it: When a buddy orders French fries at lunch, you can’t help but steal some of hers, or even order your own. Or how about the girl who always orders a greasy app, or another beer, or a huge dessert? We’re not saying don’t dine with them…we’re just saying that you want to be extra-aware of what you’re getting into when you hang with someone who isn’t as savvy as you.

3. Discover your signature style.
You know that girl who can make guys salivate just by wearing a plain white Hanes tee and comfy jeans? That’s because it’s not just what you wear, but also how you wear it. According to Spencer, everything you put on your body gives off signals that can captivate a room…or turn people off. So rock the clothing that gets you the most compliments and makes you feel good, even if it’s a V-neck sweater you bought on clearance five years ago.

4. Give food your undivided attention.
When it comes to meals, don’t multitask. If you chow down while watching the newest Gossip Girlepisode, you will end up consuming more…and possibly not remember eating in the first place. (Even worse: You might miss a steamy Blair and Chuck scene.) Plus, remember that eating is something you do when you’re hungry — not when you’re weepy, bored, fidgety, or drunk. Listen to your tummy, not your emotions.

5. Slip into some sexy panties.
Power suit? How about power panties? If you save your best ooh-la-la underthings only for dates and parties, you’re underestimating how indulgent some hidden sauciness can be on a regular workday. And since we all know that the wrong underwear can throw off your game for the entire day, keep an array of options in your drawer: seamless panties, Spanx, thongs, boy shorts, and at least one pair of sexy undies that basically looks like a doily. A very, very small doily.

6. Buy more food without labels.
When you’re tossing items into your grocery cart, put a limit on food that comes in a box, can, or wrapper. The fewer preservatives, additives, and chemicals a food has, the healthier it is. (Duh.) A good rule to follow: If you have to nuke it when you get home, there’s probably a fresher option in the produce or meat aisle.

7. Wear black opaque tights.
Consider solid black tights the miracle worker of your lower-body wardrobe. Among their talents: They make your legs look thinner; they’re a stylish way to deal with cooler temps; they’re usually inexpensive; and they can hide a multitude of flaws, like veins, your annual winter pastiness, and even knobby knees.

8. Police your portion control.
One in four Americans eats everything he or she is served, regardless of how much food it is. Bigger is certainly better when it comes to paychecks and heel heights, but not when we’re talking about food portions. So the next time you’re about to down some macaroni and cheese, keep in mind that “the clean plate club” is one group you don’t want to be in!

9. Beware of “healthy” foods and other hidden food traps.
It starts out innocently enough: You decide to make a salad for lunch. So into your bowl goes crisp spinach, shredded carrots, and cherry tomatoes. But as you’re patting yourself on the back for a meal healthfully done, your dish becomes laden with, well, crap: eggs, bacon, croutons, creamy dressing. The lesson? Just because it’s called a “salad” doesn’t mean it’s wholesome.

10. Choose fat burners, not fats.
Some magical foods actually satisfy you, for various reasons. Add these to your shopping list and incorporate them into your diet: grapefruit, apples, olive oil, flaxseeds, sunflower seeds, lecithin, garlic, blueberries, and almonds. (Just not too much garlic, if you want to stay cool with your coworkers and boyfriend.)

by wildcherry on Monday, December 22nd, 2008 | Health, News | 7 Comments

Which diet is right for you?

It’s the time of the year that we eat more than usual. By new year the most common new year’s resolution would be too loose weight or go on diet. So for those of you who’s thinking to go on diet please read this article carefully.

The government is warning people against taking 28 types of weight loss pills, and it is urging anyone who has taken them to be checked by a health care professional.

The tainted products contain potentially dangerous undeclared ingredients, the Food and Drug Administration found, including prescription drugs in levels much higher than the maximum recommended dosages.

The brands are Fatloss Slimming, 2 Day Diet, 3x Slimming Power, Japan Lingzhi 24 Hours Diet, 5x Imelda Perfect Slimming, 3 Day Diet, 7 Day Herbal Slim, 8 Factor Diet, 7 Diet Day/Night Formula, 999 Fitness Essence, Extrim Plus, GMP, Imelda Perfect Slim, Lida DaiDaihua, Miaozi Slim Capsules, Perfect Slim, Perfect Slim 5x, Phyto Shape, ProSlim Plus, Royal Slimming Formula, Slim 3 in 1, Slim Express 360, Slimtech, Somotrim, Superslim, TripleSlim, Zhen de Shou and Venom Hyperdrive 3.0.

Many of the products are marketed as “dietary supplements” and claim to be “natural” or contain only “herbal” ingredients. But the FDA said some of the pills include sibutramine, a controlled substance; rimonabant, a drug not approved for marketing in the U.S.; phenytoin, an anti-seizure medication; and phenolphthalein, a suspected carcinogen.
Sibutramine can cause high blood pressure, seizures, tachycardia, palpitations, heart attack or stroke. It can also interact negatively with other medications that patients may be taking. Rimonabant, which was evaluated but not approved for marketing in the U.S., has been associated with increased risk of depression and suicidal thoughts.

The FDA is seeking product recalls and may take further enforcement steps such as warning letters, seizures, injunctions or criminal charges.
Health care professionals and consumers should report serious side effects or other problems with the products to the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program.

Bumetanide equal Steroid?

by wildcherry on Friday, October 24th, 2008 | News, Sports | No Comments

A number of NFL players — including Deuce McAllister and Will Smith of the New Orleans Saints — have tested positive under the NFL’s steroid policy as a result of taking water pills to lose weight, according to a report from Fox 31-Denver reporter Josina Anderson.

Anderson’s report cited “a rash of positive tests.” The number is more than 10 and may exceed 15, two sources have told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

Attorney David Cornwell told Mortensen he has been retained by “a number of players” to represent them in the NFL appeals process, but Cornwell wouldn’t say who those players were or the exact number who have retained his legal services.

Smith’s listed agent, Joel Segal, was not immediately available to comment, according to Fox 31-Denver. A representative for McAllister’s agent, Jim Steiner, said the agent would call that station back.

Under the NFL’s steroid policy, a player’s first positive test results in a four-game suspension.

McAllister and Smith both practiced Friday morning at the Saints’ hotel in Watford, England. They are in London preparing for Sunday’s game against San Diego.

The Saints switched to a London hotel Friday afternoon. The team did not immediately return calls or e-mails seeking coment.

National Football League spokesman Michael Signora, who is in London, said the league will not comment on the reports.

A source told Fox 31-Denver that Bumetanide “can also mask the use of other drugs or steroids.”

Bumetanide is a drug belonging to a group of medicines called loop diuretics or “water pills.” Its uses include the treatment of fluid retention and swelling caused by medical conditions such as congestive heart failure, liver disease, and kidney disease, Fox 31-Denver reported.

Lose Weight By Speeding Up Your Metabolism

by wildcherry on Friday, October 10th, 2008 | Health, News | 5 Comments

Speed up Metabolism

We have all heard people talking about how easy it is for individual with high metabolisms to shed extra pounds. Of course we then determine that since we can’t lose weight we probably have a slow metabolism.

Metabolism, or metabolic rate is how fast your body burns calories by going about your daily routines. Of course everyone has a different metabolism and it’s the reason some can eat pretty much anything they want and never gain an ounce, while others gain weight if they even look at a fudge brownie.

Good news is you can exert control over your metabolic rate and speed it up.

Here are three tips to crank up the metabolic heat.

1. Eat smaller meals and eat more often - Your body will adjust to using the more frequent meals as fuel and not store them as body fat.
2. Drink more water - A German study showed that drinking 500ml of water increased the resting metabolic rate of the test subjects by 30%! This effect reached a maximum around 30-40 minutes after drinking the water.
3. Supplements - Maybe - Studies recently showed that vitamin C has influence on metabolism
