Romantic Birthday and Anniversary Ideas

It’s his birthday. It’s her birthday. It’s your anniversary. It’s Valentine’s Day. Whatever the occasion, you want to make it special. Here are a few ideas on how to make a special day a romantic one to remember…
- Make it for “Him/Her” day. Is there something you know he or she has always wanted to do but hasn’t? It could be something as simple as going to an expensive restaurant or something as extravagant – and fun – as taking a ride in a hot air balloon.
- Take an evening cruise. If you live near the ocean, a lake or river, chances are you can take a romantic dinner cruise to make the celebration a beautiful experience.
- Have some fun! Revisit your teenage years and go to a drive-in. Bring plenty of popcorn and be prepared for long kissing sessions!
- Keep it close to home – prepare you bathroom with scented candles, a bottle of champagne and soft, sexy music. Throw rose petals on your bed (which is covered with your best sheets) and see what happens!
- Hire a string quartet and invite your love to a special destination and have the strings serenade them.
- Get out and about in nature. There’s nothing like the wonder of nature to help you connect even more deeply to your partner. America is full of secluded places of beauty. Try to find an out of the way spot, bring a bottle of red wine and a picnic basket and take it from there.
- Look up! Oscar Wilde, the great Irish wit and writer once said “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.” Take your date out for a night of star-gazing.
- If you live in a big smoky city, and the stars are hard to see, visit a planetarium.
- If you’re a super busy person who spends more time at the office than with your partner, take the day off! This in itself will be a gift to your partner on a romantic celebratory day that they will appreciate.
- Relive your first date. Go back to the scene where you first met and reminisce. Did you first meet at a bar or some other place? Arrange to meet your partner at that same place - just for fun - for old times sake. Perhaps you first met in one of the free dating sites , arrange to meet in the singles chat rooms - for a laugh - reignite the chemistry.
- If your romantic anniversary is a winter event, take your love ice skating. You can be sure to have some thrills and spills! To skate hand-in-hand on the ice is very American – and romantic – way to go.
- Cook up something special. Do some research and check with your date’s family what their favorite childhood meal was and recreate it.
- Using some of the ideas above – or some of your very own – make the anniversary special occasion last all day and into the night.

Since Valentine’s Day is around the corner, here are the top 10 sweetest things someone has done for his/her loved ones to give you some idea for Valentine’s day:
1. When my fiancé asked me to go to New York for vacation and proposed to me in the middle of Times Square with full camera crew just to capture the “Yes” moment. ~ Mel
2. When my boyfriend called me on the day of our anniversary and told me to look out the window and there he was holding a teddy bear on one hand and a bouquet of roses on another hand while singing L.O.V.E song on a Valentine’s Day. ~ KJ
3. The sweetest thing on Valentines day for me; was my hubby using expressed breast milk to feed my youngest who had horrific colic. He booked me into a hotel with spa treatments, he also arranged for his sister to pick up on the feeding and nursing when he had to leave for work at 6am. ~ gloopygladys
4. When he made me breakfast in bed, tasted awful but i ate it lol ~ kat_luvr
5. When I came back to my home country with this guy and his girlfriend hugged me first instead of her own boyfriend. ~ DH
6. A guy created a scrapbook/diary for me from scratch. He dipped every single page into a coffee mixture and dried them one by one. There were about 500 pages total. He also put my baby pictures and some poems and love notes on the first few pages and last few pages. In addition, he read me his love note. It was the sweetest thing. ~ Rachel
7. A bouquet of roses are on my desk every single month for 12 straight months before we finally got married. We’ve been married for 12 years now and that has been the sweetest thing someone ever done for me. ~ Jenny

9. When this guy moves to another state just to be with me. He even mentioned that he was only in town for vacation; but in fact, he bought a place already, found a steady job, and then told you just the day before so that I can pick him up at the airport and spend the rest of my life with him. ~ Julie
10. When I was sick with a cold and fever and my girlfriend stayed by my side. She made me soup, brew tea, and rubbed me with vapor rub. That was just one of the sweetest things that she did for me. Unfortunately she got sick too and it was my turn to take care of her. ~ myss

Love Notes: The Perfect Presentation

Looking for a new way to show your sweetie how much you care? Love letters are the timeless, never forgotten, cherished forever sentiments of love. Equally treasured are love notes, simple reminders to your love of your love and desire for them. Below you will find ideas on how to create unique love letters and notes along with special ways to present them to your love.
No ordinary paper…
Antiqued paper can be made by presoaking your letter paper in coffee.
Scented paper made with your perfume, cologne, or fruity sprays.
On hearts, big ones on a giant card or little ones on a mobile or made to look like conversation candies.
Post-Its are quick and easy priceless little reminders.
Paper roses, cut out paper petals, write sweet nothings on them and them push a pipe cleaner through the middle as a stem and arrange the petals.
Tissue paper love notes are time consuming, but sweet surprises. A couple of words written on the corner of tissues and then folded back into the box.
Use candy to make sweet and silly poetry. Replace words like “Starburst,” “Sugar Daddy,” and “Whatchamacalit” in your poem with the actual candies.
Dry erase markers work great on any glassy surface for drawings and notes.
On the bedding, if you dare, surprise your lover with love notes on the giant canvas of your bed.
“For our 1-year dating anniversary, I made my boyfriend an antique looking love letter. I got a pad of thick drawing paper, like a Crayola Pad, for the paper, and then I made a cup of tea and let it steep for a while. I used the teabag to blot the paper so it looked stained and old. Then I burned the edges so that it looked a little like a pirate map out of the movies. After the paper dried I wrote the letter, rolled it up and stuck it in a nice glass bottle that I got at Pier 1 Imports. He really liked it!” –submitted by Sarah
Multi-media…
Text messaging is a virtually effortless way to bring a smile to your love’s face anytime, anywhere.
PowerPoint is a brilliant way to express your love. Set up a picture slide show and add your voice, animation, and love notes to sweep them off their feet
Writable media allows you to record yourself reading your love letter over music, video, or pictures.
Email your love and while thinking ahead, print and save some of your favorite emails to build another sentimental gift!
Computer Love — Set your love’s computer to have a personalized screen saver or customized desktop.
“The guy I love studies languages, so one day I sent him a text message on his cell phone that said “I love you” in about 10 different languages. At the end of it, I wrote ‘No matter how I say it, I love you baby, yours forever.’ He loved it!” –submitted by Anon
Package your letter…
Memory boxes can hold your letters, notes, and be used to collect memorabilia of your moments together.
Scrapbook making allows you to write love notes as captions to pictures, anecdotes to memorabilia, and use words as décor to your pages.
Message in a bottle — Roll your letter up like a scroll and put it in a jar with a cork. You could also add in bits of confetti or glitter, or themed items like sand and shells.
Balloons can also hold rolled up messages and any other small items you can fit through the opening before inflation.
“For our six month anniversary, I didn’t have a lot of money to spend on my boyfriend. Rather than buy him something cheap, I decided to make him something that he could keep forever to remind him how much I love him. I went to the store and bought a pad of construction paper and glitter stars. I then cut out 60 hearts and on each heart, I wrote a reason why I loved him. Then I decorated each heart with the glitter stars. I put all of these hearts in a jar and filled the remaining space with ribbon and more glitter stars. He loved reading each little heart and has the jar sitting on his desk for all to see!” –submitted by Anonymous
Surprise Deliveries…
In their lunch is a great place to hide a love note, word of encouragement, or even apology!
On the pillow is the perfect place to say “good morning,” “I love you,” or “you light up my life.”
In their breakfast is a great way to start the day. Surprise them with a love note in their box of cereal or pasted to the side of the orange juice.
On the mirror, you can write with dry erase markers or stick a note to let your love know you are thinking of them.
Stuck anywhere, love notes are great on the refrigerator, in his shoe, in her make-up case, anywhere and everywhere.
In the bath, you can hide a message in a bottle, personalized soaps, or for the child in them, notes on rubber duckies or boats.
On their car, you can leave love letters and notes on paper, written with soap or dry erase markers, or fill their car with love note balloons.
Glow-in-the-dark pens or chalks can be used on the mirror, bedding, or ceiling if you dare, so that when your love drifts to sleep, you will be on their mind.
